I am watching corn and soybean planting progress this week. The Monday report showed corn plantings at 14%. This is way behind last year’s pace of 46% and the five-year average of 33%. Soybean planting advanced to 8%; this compares to the five-year average at 13%. Spring wheat plantings advanced to 19%, which is 9% behind the five-year average. Winter wheat crop conditions were steady with last week at 27% good to excellent. This is down 21% from last year. I do not think we will be anywhere close to the benchmark of 50% planted for US corn acres in the report next Monday.
