Last week on Thursday, the odds for a 50-basis point rate cut by the Federal Reserve (whose announcement will be today) were approximately 15%. As of last night, the odds for a 50-basis point cut were nearly 70%. Many economists feel the Fed will go with the 25-basis point cut and try to avoid conveying panic, and that things are worse than they appear for the US economy.
